A Johnny Reb Band from Salem: The Pride of Tarheelia explores the history of the 26th Regimental Band, North Carolina Troops, C.S.A., which was made up of Moravian musicians from Salem. The first part of the book discusses Moravian musical traditions during the eighteenth and the first half of the nineteenth centuries. The second part traces the band's Confederate service.

Originally published in 1963, this revised text is illustrated with many photos, maps, and also includes 27 sketches of camp life drawn by Alexander C. Meinung, a member of the band.
