Early American Sampler
The sampler made a very early appearance in Colonial America having its origins in England. It was used as a school exercise teaching students an array of stitches. These samplers became works of art using verses, alphabets, numbers, people, animals, Biblical stories, and many other motifs.
Old Salem Museums & Gardens has many fine examples of samplers throughout its collection.
This Early American Sampler is representative of the samplers being done in America and England between 1750 and 1840. The kit includes 9 x 12 11-count Aida cloth, embroidery floss, needle, chart, and complete instructions.
