The courting candle was developed in the 1600s as a way for parents to time how long a gentleman suitor could visit with their daughter. They would set the candle burn time by placing a cut into the candle rope. A long rope of candle went to a favored young man while others received the short rope. This is an updated version of the courting candle with a patented clip that extinguishes the flame. This candle features a glass hurricane and has a 40 hour burn time - each inch of candle burns for approximately 20 minutes.
Candle with Hurricane Lamp has an overall measurement of 14" high x 6" wide.
