Captain Charles Frederic Bahnson, a quartermaster in Company G, 2nd NC Battalion (CSA) carried the original version of this map case during his service in the Civil War.

Captain Bahnson was from Salem, NC and his father was a bishop in the Moravian Church.

The original map case is in a private collection in Captain Bahnson's family, and is reproduced by Old Salem Museums & Gardens talented trades staff.
